Additional Information

This is our feature package, the vacation itinerary our customers choose the most, ideal for nature lovers who seek to admire and learn about the rich Eco-systems of Costa Rica. This vacation package was designed for those who want to see it all: beaches, waterfalls, rainforests, cloud forests, plantations, volcanoes, hanging bridges and of course, lots of the amazing wildlife that Costa Rica has to offer.

This great natural adventure begins at the not-so explored Sarapiqui area, where you will be able to see the richness of our Tropical Rainforests. On the way there we will show you some beautiful natural wonders of our country, like waterfalls, volcanoes (from the distance), forests and a coffee plantation, where you would have the chance to taste if you wish, some of our worldwide famous coffee, from a plantation that won the award of the best coffee in the world in 2001-2002. Once in Sarapiqui your hotel would be the Sarapiquis Rainforest Lodge, a charming and rustic accommodation that imitates the houses of our native tribes. This hotel is very unique, because it has ample gardens with all kinds of tropical plants, a botanical garden with medicinal rainforest plants, a real indigenous cemetery and it is located next to a Biological Reserve, so seeing wild animals at the grounds of the hotel is a very common thing. From this Sarapiqui Hotel we would take you to visit the Biological Reserve, where you would do a rainforest walk to admire our diverse flora and fauna, as well as participate of their traditional chocolate tour, a presentation in a rustic building next to an old cocoa plantation where you would learn about cocoa from A to Z. This Costa Rican Chocolate Tour will allow you to see the plants where the cocoa fruits grow, the ways our native tribes used it (it was actually sacred to them), the way they processed it, and the way it is processed in modern times to transform it into chocolate, one of mankind’s favorite treats. Degustation of chocolate would be done of course, in the form of the drink our ancestors use to make, as pure cocoa beans (roasted and un-roasted), as pure-liquid cocoa and as chocolate bars!

After all these great experiences in Sarapiqui, we would take you to the Arenal Volcano area, The Main Touristic Attraction of Costa Rica. On the way to Arenal we would show you other interesting aspects of our culture, as well as beautiful landscapes. Once in Arenal you would be staying at the Lomas del Volcan Hotel, a mid-range type of accommodation with ample beautiful gardens, nature trails and excellent views of Arenal Volcano, because this mountain is literally the backyard of this hotel! From Arenal you would enjoy of a Wildlife Observation Tour by boat at the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge; we consider this reserve as one of the 2 best places in all Costa Rica to see wild animals in their natural habitat (the other is Tortuguero). At Cano Negro you would board a large pontoon boat for about 2 hours, from which is very common to see the 3 species of monkeys that live in this area: howlers, white faced capuchin and spider monkeys.  Other animals we commonly observe are iguanas, caimans, sloths, parrots, basilisks and lots of tropical bird species, including toucans.

After your adventures in Arenal we would take you to a totally different landscape and habitat at the Monteverde Cloud Forest area. On the way to Monteverde you will have the unique opportunity to cross the Arenal Lake by boat, from where you will get spectacular views of the volcano and the surrounding rainforest mountains of the area (weather permitting). Once in Monteverde your accommodation would be at the Ficus Sunset Suites Hotel, a mid-range accommodation located right in the charming town of Santa Elena. Here in Monteverde we will take you to see the Main Attraction of the area: the famous Hanging Bridges in the Cloud Forest. The total length of the trail is about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles), including a total of 8 suspension bridges, from which you could take the best pictures of the Cloud forest (weather permitting). This walk is done mainly on flat terrain and it takes about 2.5 hours to complete it at a slow pace, for you to learn about the details of this rare eco-system and have time to take great pictures of your experience.

Your following destination will be the Manuel Antonio National Park area, the Most Beautiful Beach of Costa Rica. On the way to Manuel Antonio we would also be making multiple stops for you to experience of our Costa Rican Culture and to search for more wildlife. As part of this transfer-tour we stop in a bridge where we normally observe lots of big crocodiles at the Tarcoles River, which has one of the largest crocodile populations in the world. We would stop near the Carara National Park too, to look for scarlet macaws, the most beautiful birds of Cost Rica; and at the Jaco Beach look out point, for you to take pictures of this beautiful bay area. Once in Manuel Antonio, your accommodation would be at the Costa Verde Hotel, a great accommodation option that combines convenient proximity to the beach and great ocean views, something that not too many hotels here can brag about. Also, this hotel borders with the Manuel Antonio National Park, so seeing wild animals in the grounds of the hotel is something very common; as a matter of fact, the hotel’s motto is “still more monkeys than people”. We understand that there are other hotels closer to the beach area, but we’ve decided to include this one because of the beautiful nature around it, making it ideal for this particular Nature Vacation Package. Here in Manuel Antonio you would have a couple of days to relax a little after your adventure around the country, or for you to explore the nearby beaches and the National Park’s trails on your own.

We are sure that you will have a great time in Costa Rica traveling with this itinerary, but please remember that we can customize it and make as many changes as you wish, such as doing other activities, visit other places, do hotel upgrades, etc., we can fine-tune your vacation to make it the experience of a lifetime!
